Analytics docs

Start collecting website visits

Create one website property, publish one small script in your server-rendered HTML, and let PromptEden check the live installation.

Before you start: you need a PromptEden project and permission to add a script to the website you want to measure. The generated site key is shown once, so copy it before leaving setup.
01

Create the website property

In your PromptEden project, open Analytics → Integrations. Enter the hostname visitors see, such as example.com, without a protocol or path. Choose Create tracking snippet.

02

Publish the generated script

Copy the complete script from PromptEden and add it once to the initial server-rendered HTML on every page. Use the platform install guide for direct HTML, WordPress, Next.js, or Google Tag Manager notes.

03

Check the live site

Return to Analytics → Integrations and choose Verify installation. PromptEden checks the published script and the public collector separately. Both checks must pass.

What a passing check means

The script check found the canonical PromptEden tag and an active site key in your published HTML. It also followed the stable /eden.js URL's single same-host redirect to the current content-hashed JavaScript asset. Separately, the collector check sent a protected synthetic pageview through the real public collector. That synthetic check is not a billable visit. Coverage starts only when the first real visit arrives.

After verification, the setup card may briefly say Setup complete—waiting for the first data check. That is different from a failure: the installation passed, but a real collection pass has not finished yet.

What the script measures

PromptEden records pageviews, landing paths, referrer hosts, and the supported UTM campaign fields. The script does not set cookies (reading only an existing pe_internal=1 opt-out cookie if present to mark internal team visits), does not use local or session storage, and creates no persistent browser ID. Visits are grouped with a site-scoped hash that rotates daily, so attribution stays within the observed visit.

Next steps

  • Open your site in a normal browser window to create the first real visit.
  • Confirm that Analytics → Integrations shows a recent real event or healthy collection pass.
  • If either live check fails, follow the troubleshooting guide.

What you built

Your website now sends cookieless pageviews to its own PromptEden property. PromptEden can separate observed AI referrals from other channels without following a person across days or websites.
